Additional Law School Updates: New Initiatives and Historically Strong Outcomes

February 27, 2024

Dear Members of the Northwestern Pritzker Law Community,

Following up on my recent message on our working group launch, I wanted to share some additional updates on some exciting new initiatives at the Law School and also our data from this past year on our historically strong outcomes in employment and admissions and impactful fundraising. I am grateful for the incredible teams at the Law School who have made this ambitious trajectory possible and are excited for what we are building together.

  • With unanimous faculty support, the West Coast Initiative launched in January, which builds out of our San Francisco Immersion program with Kellogg. The new Los Angeles Entertainment, Media, and Sports Law & Business Semester is underway, and the new Seattle Tech-Law Experience will begin in early March. Thank you to Professor Emerson Tiller, our Alumni Relations and Development team, and our alumni for their leadership and partnership. More
  • The William R. Rivkin Law and Public Advocacy Fellows Program in the Public Interest Center launched this semester and supports students interested in public advocacy careers, training students to succeed as public influencers and leaders in the legal space. The Program will initially run for four academic years, and 5-10 students will be selected to participate each year. Thank you to Charles H. Rivkin and Robert S. Rivkin for their generosity and Professor Jason DeSanto for his leadership. More
  • Our new Writing Lab has expanded its services to support all students. Now students can request either 30- or 60-minute tutoring sessions with Writing Fellows to review a portion of their written assignments. Thank you to Professor Meredith Geller, Director of the Writing Lab and Nell Novara, Associate Director of International Student Support, for their leadership. To register for the program, students should email writinglab@law.northwestern.edu.

Employment

With thanks to Associate Dean Donald Rebstock, Assistant Dean David Diamond, and the Career Strategy Center team for all of their efforts, our Class of 2022 had 98.5% employment at 10 months after graduation.

Fall 2023 JD Class

With thanks to Associate Dean Don Rebstock, Assistant Dean Johann Lee, and the Admissions team, our entering J.D. class had our highest LSAT and highest GPA in the history of the Law School, and was also our most racially diverse class, had our highest percentage of first-generation college graduates, and more than half of the students identify as female.

Fundraising

With thanks to Associate Dean Darnell Hines and the Law School Alumni Relations and Development team, we closed FY2023 with our strongest fundraising year since Governor and M.K. Pritzker’s naming gift in 2015-16. Major gifts supported numerous new scholarships and programs, new faculty chairs, the Bluhm Legal Clinic, and the Center for Racial and Disability Justice.
