Acknowledging Our Pain, Anger, and Sadness and Our Commitment to Work for Greater Justice

May 25, 2022

Our hearts are heavy today. We want to acknowledge the pain, anger, and sadness of today’s two-year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, the school shooting in Uvalde, the hate-driven killings in Buffalo, and too many other incidents of violence and hate in our community and around the country and world. We are here to provide support for anyone who needs it.

Our Office of Student Services and Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Engagement teams are available to meet with members of our community. We also wanted to share University support resources.

  • For counseling services, students can connect with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), which offers same-day virtual appointments. Faculty and staff can access the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which provides a network of services including free and confidential short-term counseling.
  • All members of the Northwestern community are welcome to access Religious & Spiritual Life, where chaplains are available to talk confidentially and provide support.

As lawyers and professionals, we have an obligation to advance greater justice and address problems that are longstanding and ongoing. I am grateful for the important efforts of the Bluhm Legal Clinic and so many members of our community, as well as for our partnership with the ABA Legal Education Police Practices Consortium. We are committed to continuing this work.

Warmly,
Hari
