Victor G. Rosenblum, 80

Victor G. Rosenblum, Nathaniel L. Nathanson Professor of Law Emeritus, passed away March 13 at the age of 80. Professor Rosenblum's nearly 50 years of service and dedication to Northwestern Law and its students was unparalleled. He was an amazing man and scholar and an inspiring teacher. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife, Louise, and his entire family. He will be missed by all in the Northwestern Law community.

Services took place at on Thursday, March 16, at Beth Emet Synagogue, 1224 Dempster St., Evanston, Ill. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be made in Victor's memory to Shore Services for Developmental Disabilities, 4232 Dempster St., Skokie, Ill. 60076.

The Law School will hold a memorial service honoring Professor Rosenblum during Reunion Weekend on Friday, Sept. 29.

Professor Rosenblum earned his AB and LLB degrees from Columbia University and a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. He joined the Northwestern University faculty in 1958 as an associate professor of political science. He began teaching at the Law School in 1962 and became the Nathaniel L. Nathanson Professor of Law in 1988. He continued to hold the position as emeritus in 2002 after Professor Bob Bennett was installed as the Nathaniel L. Nathanson Professor of Law.

Prior to joining Northwestern, Professor Rosenblum served as associate counsel for the U.S. House of Representative's Subcommittee on Executive and Legislative Reorganization and as president of Reed College. He has taught as a visiting professor at Peoples' University in China, at the University of Louvain in Belgium, and at numerous U.S. law schools. He chaired the American Bar Association's section of administrative law and regulatory practice and served as president of the Association of American Law Schools and a board member of the Law School Admissions Council.

In addition to being nationally recognized for his scholarship in Administrative Law and Constitutional Law, Professor Rosenblum was recognized among the Law School community as a beloved classroom teacher. He earned Dean's Teaching Awards in 2000, 2001, and 2003 (Honorable Mention) based on student evaluations, and was chosen by students as the Outstanding Professor of a Small Class for academic year 2003–04. For their graduating class gift to the Law School, the class of 2004 chose to honor and celebrate the career and achievements of Professor Rosenblum with a portrait that now hangs in Strawn Hall.
