Prominent general counsel from across the nation will gather in San Francisco for an annual program that addresses current challenges facing in-house counsel and provides updates on recent developments in the law.

The 44th Annual Corporate Counsel Institute will take place December 1 and 2 at Hotel Nikko, 222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA.

Developed by general counsel from some of the nation's leading corporations, the program provides a format for attendees to share experiences and identify mutual concerns. General counsel and executives from top companies including The Boeing Company, Chevron Corporation, Experian Information Solutions, Washington Mutual Card Services, and eBay Inc. will participate in various panel discussions that will give attendees a chance to ask questions and find out how their peers are handling some of today's tougher challenges.

This year's program will focus on the general counsel's role in financial management. Auditors, accountants, and experienced general counsel will discuss topics such as managing the audit process, implementing internal financial controls, and knowing when to recommend outside counsel. They will also discuss the financial disclosure and governance issues that surfaced for Enron and Worldcom and what today's general counsel can do to detect such problems.

The Corporate Counsel Institute continues its tradition of providing updates on recent developments in the law that affect corporations. Legal experts will discuss changes in electronic records and discovery, M & A, tort reform, and employment law.

As a program sponsored by Northwestern University School of Law, the Corporate Counsel Institute is recognized for mandatory continuing legal education credit in most states.
