Dean's Teaching Award Recipients

Congratulations to the recipients of the Dean's Teaching Awards for the 2004-2005 academic year. Good teaching is extremely important in our community, and these awards, along with our student-voted teaching awards, recognize those faculty members who have excelled in a given year. The Dean's Teaching Awards honor faculty members for high-quality teaching as measured by student evaluations.

Dean's Teaching Award Recipients:

Robert Burns
Professor of Law
Professor Burns, a three time recipient of the student-voted Robert Childres Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence, is a professor of law and litigation attorney in the Bluhm Legal Clinic. He is a principal architect of the Law School's coordinated program in Evidence, Professional Responsibility, and Trial Advocacy and is coauthor of Problems and Materials in Evidence and Trial Advocacy Vols. I & II, and Exercises and Problems in Professional Responsibility. Professor Burns teaches evidence, legal ethics, and civil procedures classes.

Clint Francis
Professor of Law
This is the fifth year Professor Francis has received the Dean's Teaching Award. He teaches and researches in the areas of intellectual property, e-commerce, commercial law and bankruptcy. Most recently he has formed a business venture for partnering law firms with the Law School for the production and delivery of online legal instruction for corporations and professionals.

Tom Geraghty
Director, Bluhm Legal Clinic

Professor of Law
In addition to teaching, fund-raising, and administrative responsibilities, Professor Geraghty maintains an active caseload at the Bluhm Legal Clinic, concentrating primarily in criminal and juvenile defense, death penalty appeals, projects dealing with the representation of children and juvenile court reform. In 2004, he traveled with law students and Loyola University professor Diane Geraghty to Lilongwe, Malawi to participate in a conference on legal aid in criminal justice in Africa. This is the fourth year has has received a Dean's Teaching Award.

Steve Lubet
Director, Program on Advocacy and Professionalism
Professor of Law

Professor Lubet is a legal ethics and litigation expert who has published widely on the subject and is often quoted in the media. He recently published a book on the little-known story of the prosecution of Wyatt Earp, his brothers, and Doc Holliday following the famous gunfight. He teaches courses on legal ethics, trial advocacy, pretrial litigation, and negotiation. This is the third time he has received a Dean's Teaching Award.

Fred McChesney
Class of 1967 James B. Haddad Professor of Law

Professor McChesney has been a past honorable mention recipient of the Dean's Teaching Award. His primary scholarly teaching interests are in the area of business and antitrust law and their intersection with economic theory. He previously served as Associate Director for Policy and Evaluation at the Federal Trade Commission.

Tom Morsch
Director, Small Business Opportunity Center
Clinical Professor of Law

Professor Morsch joined the Law School's Bluhm Legal Clinic in 1998 and directs the clinic's Small Business Opportunity Center. He teaches entrepreneurship and nonprofit organization law. This is the third year he has been honored with a Dean's Teaching Award.

Len Rubinowitz
Professor of Law

Professor Rubinowitz has been teaching at Northwestern University since 1975. One of the most popular professors, he is a three-time recipient of the student-selected Robert Childres Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence. He currently teaches a civil rights seminar, law and social change, and a legal profession seminar.

Sam Tenenbaum
Director, Investor Protection Center
Clinical Assistant Professor of Law

Professor Tenenbaum was previously a visiting professor in the Bluhm Legal Clinic. He joins the faculty this year as a clinical assistant professor and will direct the clinic's new Investor Protection Center. He teaches complex litigation and is also a faculty advisor for the International Team Projects.
