Northwestern Law Brings Senior SEC Officials to Annual Institute

April 14, 2005

Senior officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will take part in a rarely offered question and answer session as part of a Northwestern University School of Law continuing legal education program.

The 25th Annual Ray Garrett Jr. Corporate and Securities Law Institute brings together some of the top securities and corporate law practitioners and government officials to discuss those issues most pressing in the industry today. The Institute will be held April 14 and 15 at Northwestern University School of Law, Thorne Auditorium, 375 East Chicago Avenue.

With the question of government regulation versus self-regulation for corporations ever present, this year's program provides a unique opportunity to understand the perspective of the SEC, the government's chief regulator.

"We are fortunate to have the SEC participate along with some of the very best practitioners in the field," says Institute chair Robert Wall of Winston & Strawn LLP.

Keynote speaker Kevin O'Hara, General Counsel for Archipelago Holdings Inc., will share his perspective on regulatory markets and the new world of electronic trading. Archipelago Holdings Inc. operates ArcaEx, the world's largest fully-electronic stock exchange.

The Ray Garrett Jr. Corporate and Securities Law Institute is sponsored by Northwestern University School of Law and is accredited in most states with mandatory continuing legal education requirements. The Institute was established in memory of Ray Garrett Jr., former chairman of the SEC, a member of the faculty of Northwestern University School of Law, and a partner in the Chicago office of Gardner Carton & Douglas LLP. Tuition for the program is $900. For more information, or to register, visit our Web site.

Northwestern Law's Professional Education Program sponsors numerous continuing legal education opportunities designed to provide attorneys, both firm and in-house, with information and solutions to the complex questions that confront the legal community today.
