March 07, 2005

The Northwestern Law class of 2004 has commissioned a portrait to celebrate the career and achievements of Victor G. Rosenblum, Nathaniel L. Nathanson Professor of Law Emeritus, as their graduating class gift to the Law School.

The portrait unveiling ceremony will take place March 7 at 4 p.m. in the Law School Atrium. A reception will follow the event.

Professor Rosenblum joined the Northwestern University faculty in 1958 as an associate professor of political science. He began teaching at the Law School in 1962. He was installed as the Nathaniel L. Nathanson Professor in 1988 and has continued to hold the chair as an emeritus since 2002. The Nathanson Chair was established in 1988 to honor the memory of Professor Nathaniel L. Nathanson, one of the Law School's longest-serving faculty members.

Prior to joining Northwestern, Professor Rosenblum served as associate counsel for the U.S. House of Representative's Subcommittee on Executive and Legislative Reorganization. He has taught as a visiting professor at Peoples' University in China, at the University of Louvain in Belgium, and at numerous U.S. law schools. He has chaired the American Bar Association's section of administrative law and regulatory practice and has served as president of the Association of American Law Schools and a board member of the Law School Admissions Council.

He holds AB and LLB degrees from Columbia University and a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley.

In addition to being nationally recognized for his scholarship in Administrative Law and Constitutional Law, Professor Rosenblum is also known among the Law School community as a beloved classroom teacher. He earned Dean's Teaching Awards in 2000, 2001, and 2003 (Honorable Mention) based on student evaluations, and was chosen by students as the Outstanding Professor of a Small Class for academic year 2003-04.

The portrait honors Professor Rosenblum's nearly 50 years of service and dedication to Northwestern and its students.
