Portrait Unveiling of Former Dean Robert Bennett

October 09, 2001

It is a Northwestern tradition to commission an oil portrait of all former Law School deans. The portrait of former dean Robert Bennett was unveiled to the Law School community during a reception on October 9 at 2 p.m. in Lowden Hall. Faculty, staff, students and alumni were invited to honor Professor Bennett for his ten years of service (1985-1995) to the Law School as dean.

Professor Bennett is a scholar in the field of constitutional law and a professional arbitrator. Cofounder of the Chicago Council of Lawyers, he has served on the Illinois Task Force on Crime and Correction and the Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Committee of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Adjunct professor and alumnus Marvin E. Aspen, Chief Judge U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, and Dean David Van Zandt (pictured below from left) spoke about Professor Bennett's time as dean and presented the portrait.
