SEC Chairman to Speak at Mutual Fund Policy Conference

February 16, 2005

William H. Donaldson, Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, will give the keynote address at the Mutual Fund Directors Forum's fifth annual policy conference to be held Feb. 16 and 17 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C. The conference, which is presented by the Mutual Fund Directors Forum with the support and cooperation of Northwestern University School of Law provides independent mutual fund directors from across the country with updates and information critical to their oversight role.

As one of the leading authorities on corporate governance, disclosure rules and other policy reforms for mutual funds, Donaldson's visit is highly-anticipated by attendees. With his strong support of the commissions' rulemaking initiatives to enhance the fund governance framework, the Chairman believes that independent directors play a critical role in protecting the interest of mutual fund shareholders and the funds themselves.

The two-day agenda includes panel discussions covering fund governance and the role of the independent chair, new challenges for fund directors in fund distribution, oversight of portfolio execution and the use of soft dollars, and the director's role in litigation. Paul F. Roye, director of the SEC's Division of Investment Management, will deliver the keynote luncheon address on Feb. 16.

The Mutual Fund Directors Forum is a membership organization for independent directors of mutual funds. Dedicated to improving mutual fund governance, the forum provides independent directors with opportunities to discuss critical issues and offers them continuing education and outreach programs.

This event is provided in association with Northwestern University School of Law's commitment to continuing legal education that aggressively addresses the evolving concerns of today's legal and business worlds.
