Milestone Trial LawHER Scholarship

Due: July 3

Milestone has established the Trial LawHER Scholarship to help a rising 3L female law student achieve her goal of becoming a plaintiff trial lawyer. This scholarship intends to elevate a rising woman leader in the plaintiff trial lawyer space and educate future trial lawyers around the importance and impact of settlement planning.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a female U.S citizen or permanent resident; be enrolled in a 3L law school program for the fall 2022 semester; be in good academic staning; and plan to become a plaintiff trial lawyer. 

Award: $10,000

Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP Catherine Noyes Lee 2L Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship

Due: July 5

The 2L Diversity Scholar will be an outstanding second-year law student with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
 
Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be authorized to work in the US; be a member of a historically underrepresented group in the legal profession, including law students who are (a) members of racial and/or ethnic minority groups (b) women (c) LGBTQ (d) differently abled or (e) from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds; be enrolled at an ABA-accredited law school with an expected graduation date of spring 2024; have outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and excellent writing and interpersonal skills; demonstrate commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion and active involvement in the community.

Helsell Fetterman: Richard S. White Fellowship

Due: July 6

As part of our commitment to diversity, Michigan Auto Law is pleased to sponsor an annual Diversity Scholarship Program to provide financial support to students who contribute to the diversity of the law school student body as they pursue their legal career.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must; be a second year law student* in good standing pursuing a law degree at an ABA-accredited law school; (*third year if pursuing a LL.M.; possess an academic record, leadership abilities, and a commitment to personal and professional initiatives that indicate promise for a successful legal career; demonstrate an interest in furthering diversity within the community and the profession; and communicate an interest and commitment to both the practice areas represented at Helsell Fetterman and to building a practice in the Seattle area.

Freeborn & Peters LLP Diversity Scholarship Award

At Freeborn, we believe that people with different backgrounds and cultures make us stronger as an organization and allows us to deliver better results for our clients. We created our Diversity Scholarship Award to continue our commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive working environment throughout our firm and strengthen diversity and inclusion in the practice of law.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a rising 2L or 3L law student at an ABA-accredited law school in the U.S.; must have demonstrated a record of academic achievement, interpersonal skills, and an interest in serving the local legal community in one of our five offices (Chicago, New York, Tampa, Richmond, or Springfield); must have a commitment to the pursuit of diversity and inclusion in the legal field; must identify as a member of a historically underrepresented group or have demonstrated commitment to strengthening diversity and inclusion in the field of law.

Lathrop GPM Diversity & Inclusion Fellowship Award

Due: July 15

Lathrop GPM is offering up to three D&I Fellowship awards for second-year law students for the summer of 2023. As part of Lathrop GPM's 2L hiring and overall diversity & inclusion initiatives, our firm offers Fellowship awards in the form of scholarship funds to assist with tuition, fees, books, supplies and other course related expenses. The fellowship recipient(s) will also receive a 2L summer associate position in the firm's summer program. Lathrop GPM is offering up to three D&I Fellowship awards for second-year law students for the summer of 2023 in our Kansas City, Minneapolis or St. Louis offices.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must have the desire and ability to promote or enhance diversity in the legal profession; have a desire to stay in their selective city long term; have an interest in working for an Am Law 200 firm; have a strong academic record, superior work ethic, and ability to work well in a team setting; be enrolled and in good standing as a second-year law student at an ABA accredited school.

Sutliff & Stout Diversity in Law Scholarship Contest

Due: July 29

Sutliff & Stout, Injury & Accident Law Firm is proud to sponsor a nationwide scholarship contest for minorities pursuing a legal career. According to ABA’s National Lawyer Population Survey, only 12 percent of active attorneys identify as Hispanic or Latino, African American, or Asian. To do our part towards promoting diversity within the legal profession, we are offering an annual minority scholarship to be put towards legal education costs. This year's scholarship essay question is: How will your law degree help your community?

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must be accepted to or currently enrolled in an accredited law school or paralegal program.

Lane Powell George V. Powell Diversity Scholarship

Due: July 30

Lane Powell has more than 145 years of commitment to our communities. As part of our continued commitment to diversity, we proudly announce the opening of our George V. Powell Diversity Scholarship. The George V. Powell Scholar will be a 2023 Summer Associate in the firm’s Seattle or Portland office.

Elgibility Criteria: Applicants must contribute meaningfully to the diversity of the legal community; have a demonstrated desire to work, live, and eventually practice law in Seattle or Portland; be second-year law students in good standing at an ABA accredited law school. The candidates’ academic achievements and record of leadership abilities, community service, and involvement in community issues will be taken into consideration. Candidates in four-year joint degree programs will be considered after their third-year.

Barnett Howard & Williams PLLC Military Veteran Law Student Scholarship

Due: August 1

Barnett Howard & Williams PLLC is now accepting applications for the firm’s Military Veteran Law Student Scholarship. The award will be paid directly to the student, and can be used for any expenses related to legal education, including but not limited to tuition, room, board, books, bar review courses, or commuting expenses.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a military veteran law student (1L, 2L, or 3L) attending law school in the US.

Gibson Dunn 2L Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship

Due: August 5

At Gibson Dunn, we hold respect as a core value and strive to cultivate a culturally fluent, open environment that welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. To further our efforts, Gibson Dunn will award
several $50,000 scholarships to 2L law students who identify with an underrepresented group in the legal profession and who have demonstrated resilience and excellence on their path toward a career in law.
Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must intend to practice law in a U.S. city in which Gibson Dunn has an office;  be currently enrolled in a full-time JD program, with an expected graduation date of spring 2024; not be the recipient of a similar award (impacting their 2023 summer) from another law firm.

Reed Smith 2L Managed Care Diversity Fellowship Program

The Reed Smith 2L Diversity Fellowship Program provides an award and a summer associate position to a law student interested in pursuing a career in managed care litigation.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a diverse, second-year law student interested in pursuing a career in managed care litigation; must have demonstrated academic scholarship; must have a dedication to community service and/or leadership; must have an understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Reed Smith Deborah J. Broyles Diverse Scholars Program

Due: August 6

Our Diverse Scholars Program began in 2002. In 2016, we renamed the program to honor late partner Deborah Broyles, who was our firm’s Director of Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. She was known for her legal work and community activism. Deborah was a trailblazer in diversity efforts in the legal profession.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be matriculated at an ABA-accredited law school; must demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion; must be authorized to work in the U.S.; must accept Reed Smith's offer to join the Summer Program following the completion of their 2L year.

Reed Smith/BNY Mellon 2L Diversity Fellowship Program

Due: August 12

The Reed Smith/BNY Mellon Diversity Fellowship Program provides an award and a 2023 summer associate position to a diverse, second-year law student interested in pursuing a career in financial services litigation.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a diverse, second-year law student interested in pursuing a career fininancial services litigation; must have demonstrated academic scholarship; must have a dedication to community service and/or leadership; must have an understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Reed Smith/Citizens Financial Group 2L Diversity Fellowship Program

Due: August 12

The Reed Smith/Citizens Financial Group Diversity Fellowship Program provides an award and a 2023 summer associate position to a diverse, second-year law student.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a diverse, second-year law student; must have demonstrated strong academic scholarship; must have a dedication to community service and/or leadership; must have an understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP George Corey Memorial Scholarship

Due: August 12

Vorys Diversity & Inclusion Committee has established scholarships for diverse law students whose spirit, drive and commitment leads them to pursue a career at Vorys while also demonstrating leadership and being “difference makers” in their communities and/or schools.

Elgibility Criteria: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an ABA accredited law school and be a member of (a) one of the underrepresented racial or ethnic minority groups, and/or (b) the LGBTQ community.

Carlson Caspers' Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship Program

Due: August 15

Carlson Caspers' Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship Program awards up to two scholarships each academic year to prospective law students who identify as as being an underrepresented minority in the legal profession. 
Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be an undergraduate or higher degree in computer science, chemistry, engineering, life sciences, or physics (or expect to obtain such degree in 2022); have applied to or been accepted to an ABA-accredited law school; begining the first year of law school in the Fall of 2022; Intending to practice intellectual property law in the Twin Cities upon graduation from law school; have not received a diversity scholarship from any other law firm.

Millbank 2L Diversity Scholarship

Due: August 31

Milbank has a longstanding commitment to diversity and holds the distinction of being one of the first major law firms to establish a Diversity Committee. The Disability Scholarship was established in 2014 as part of the law firm’s commitment to helping students with disabilities or injuries who are in need of financial assistance for educational purposes.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must: be a U.S. citizen enrolled at an accredited college or university within the United States; have a disability diagnosis from any person qualified to make a diagnosis; have completed at least one semester of classes at an accredited college or university. he scholarship is available to students of any age, with any type of disability, including but not limited to physical disabilities, medical conditions, mental or psychiatric conditions, speech and language, learning disabilities, behavioral conditions, and all other conditions.

The Law School Diversity Scholarship Program was created in 2013 as part of the law firm's commitment to helping law students who are in need of financial assistance achieve their academic and professional dreams.

ArentFox Schiff LLP Diversity Scholarship

Every year, our BOS, DC, LA, NY, and SF offices award one second-year law student. Candidates may only apply to one office. Applications from second-year law students will be reviewed on a rolling basis and interviews will be scheduled throughout the summer. It is anticipated that offers will be made by late summer 2022. There will be one scholarship awarded per office.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a second-year law student, in good standing, at an ABA-accredited law school in the US; have excellent college and law school academic performance and excellent oral and written communication skills; have demonstrated leadership qualities, work experience, and community involvement; are authorized to work in the US; be a member of a diverse population that historically has been underrepresented in the legal profession; must join the ArentFox Schiff Summer Program after their second year of law school; have a strong interest in joining the Firm as an associate after law school graduation

Latham & Watkins LLP 2L Diveristy Scholars Program

Our 2L Diversity Scholars Program offers a unique opportunity to students who have just finished their second year of law school (class of 2024) at an ABA-accredited school. The 10-week program includes:In-depth legal training, mentoring, and real-world experience at one of Latham’s US offices. 2L Diversity Scholars will work alongside the 2023 summer associates. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be nrolled full time in a JD program at an ABA-accredited law school with an anticipated graduation date of 2024 (2L Diversity Scholars) or 2025 (1L Diversity Scholars) at the time of application; participate in Latham’s full 10-week 2023 Summer Program, starting on May 22, 2023. Exceptions to this start date will only be made due to conflicts with academic calendars; demonstrate a commitment to promoting DEI within the legal community and/or more broadly.

Mintz 2023 2L Summer Associate & Diversity Scholarship

At Mintz, we strive to create an environment where people from all backgrounds are positioned for success. As part of our commitment to promoting diversity at the firm and in the legal profession, we have awarded the Richard Mintz Diversity Scholarship to an exemplary diverse law student each year since 2010. We encourage you to apply early, even if you haven’t received your grades or know about journal membership. You can then reach out with updates to your application over the summer.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be community-minded 2Ls from diverse backgrounds who have shown academic excellence and commitment to diversity.

Award: $20,000 toward 3L tuition

Ropes & Gray Roscoe Trimmier Jr. 2L Diversity Scholarship

The Roscoe Trimmier Jr. 2L Diversity Scholarship, named after our first African American partner, awards scholarships to a number of outstanding second-year law students to help offset the expenses of their legal education, in addition to a paid summer associate position in the firm’s 2023 Summer Associate Program. The scholarship funds will be paid out half upon completion of the summer program, and half upon starting as a full-time associate at the firm.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a second-year law student enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school, with an expected graduation date of Spring 2024; be a member of a historically underrepresented group in the legal profession.

Award: Up to $25,000

Sidley Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship for Summer 2023

To further promote diversity within the legal profession and to support Sidley’s diversity policies, the firm created the Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Initiative for second year law students. Given the highly selective nature of the Diversity and Inclusion Scholarships and the limited number of Scholarships available, students are encouraged to submit applications at their earliest convenience. We strongly prefer to receive the application by the time of the candidate’s call-back interview.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a full-time law student in thier second year of classes at an accredited law school; have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership qualities; have demonstrated contributions to diversity initiatives or to diversity and inclusion more generally, such as in the area(s) of racial or ethnic diversity, sexual orientation or gender identity, disability, veteran status, and/or other areas underrepresented or otherwise important to diversity in the legal profession, and/or other extraordinary contributions or accomplishments, and/or Demonstrated ability to overcome adversity, such as first-in-family college attendance or socio-economic disadvantage, and/or past participation in and/or interest in assisting with the diversity and inclusion initiatives of the firm such as the Sidley Prelaw Scholars Program or a Sidley 1L Diversity Summer Mentorship Program.

Vinson & Elkins 2023 2L Diversity Fellowship

Since the program launched in 2008, V&E has awarded 130 Fellowships. More than 15 former Fellows currently practice law at V&E and some have gone on to work in GC roles at V&E clients. Given the highly selective nature of the Diversity Fellowship and the limited number of Fellowships available, students are encouraged to submit applications at their earliest convenience. A selection panel will evaluate all completed applications, conduct interviews, and announce Fellowship recipients on a rolling basis.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a first or second year law student; be in good standing at an ABA-accredited law school; have a strong undergraduate and law school record and exellent writing skills; have demonstrated interest in working at Vinson & Elkins, joining V&E as a Summer Associate, and advancing the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion initiatives.

Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) 1L Scholars Program

The 1L LCLD Scholars Program is designed to strengthen the legal pipeline by expanding
opportunities for diverse first-year law students. Program participants are offered the unique chance to work side by side with attorneys from LCLD Member organizations. The programalso provides LCLD Member law firms and corporations with an opportunity to form 1L Scholars Partnerships and share their summer interns, giving Scholars the benefit of both perspectives.

1L LCLD Scholars Virtual Summit. This three-day professional development conference features an innovative curriculum developed exclusively for LCLD 1L Scholars. With a focus on relationship building and career development strategies, the summit includes panel and guest speaker presentations, group discussions, and mock interviews. Due to the continued impact of COVID-19, the summit will be held virtually, June 7-9, 2022.

Eligibility Criteria: 1L LCLD Scholar candidates must be enrolled as first-year law students and in good standing at an ABA-approved law school; must self identify as a diverse/underrepresented or disabled first-year law student.

National LGBT Bar Association Lavendar Law Conference and Career Fair

Are you LGBTQ+ or an ally? The National LGBT Bar Association is hosting its annual Lavender Law® Conference and Career Fair, July 28 - 30th. With over 1700 annual attendees and more than 180 recruiters, it is the largest LGBTQ+ legal career fair in the world! This year the conference will host more than 50 programs, including a number geared specially to law students about career planning, student activism, and more. Additionally, top law firms and organizations from across the country will be recruiting students at the Career Fair.

Practice Pro 1L Diversity Scholar Program

The Diversity Scholar Program is a coaching, training, and recruiting program designed to help law students secure their dream employment while simultaneously preparing them with the skills, knowledge, confidence, and savvy to flourish in their legal positions and climb the corporate leadership.

Eligibility Criteria: First-year law student (Class of 2024) enrolled at an ABA-accredited law school; and a member of a racial, ethnic, or gender group which has been historically underrepresented in the legal profession, a member of the LGBTQ community, or those with a disability.
