Thomas L. Eovaldi

Prof. Eovaldi is coauthor of Legal Aspects of Marketing Strategy: Antitrust and Consumer Protection and author of articles dealing with consumer protection through the provision of information; “The Market for Consumer Product Evaluation: An Analysis and a Proposal appeared in the Northwestern University Law Review. His current research into the state system for the collection of consumer debts suggests that a lack of consumer information about the risk of defaulting on debt has led to a market failure; he is formulating a proposal which would remedy this failure while reducing the need for judicial intervention in the debt collection process. Before joining the Northwestern faculty, Professor Eovaldi practiced law with the Chicago firm of Jenner & Block. He received his BS and LLB, both with honors, from the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the student board of editors of the University of Illinois Law Forum and graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif. A founding member of the Chicago Council of Lawyers, he is a past chair of its consumer Protection Committee. He is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute. During the 1995-96 academic year he held the Harry B. Reese Professorship. He held the Perkins-Bauer Teaching Professorship during the 1990-91 academic year, which resulted in the development of a new course which integrated the teaching of negotiation skills and substantive business bankruptcy law.
