Global Jurist of the Year




The Center for International Human Rights is honored to bestow the 2021 Global Jurist of the Year Award to the women judges in Afghanistan, in recognition of their courage and persistence in the face of adversity. As part of the Global Jurist events, the Northwestern Pritzker Law community is invited to a panel discussion about the future of women in the legal profession in Afghanistan on Wednesday March 2nd, from 12-1 pm in RB 140 or via Zoom.

The moderated panel will feature Afghan judges Anisa Rasooli, Lida Kharooti, Kamila Noori, and Judge Vanessa Ruiz of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, speaking in her capacity as a member of the International Association of Women Judges. The panel will be moderated by Jennifer Smith, Executive Director of the International Legal Foundation. Boxed lunches will be provided.  

The Global Jurist of the Year award is co-sponsored by the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, IRAP Northwestern, the International Legal Foundation, Baker McKenzie LLP, the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, Jones Day LLP, the International Association of Women Judges, Fried Frank LLP, Vinson & Elkins LLP, DLA Piper LLP, and Baker Botts LLP.
